2016 Honda Pioneer 1000 Review

Honda announced it's launch of a new model to the Utility Vehicle Model line up 2016 - Honda 2016 Pioneer 1000. The Automobile giant also bragged that it's brand new UTV flagship is side-by-side (a first in the industry), a true leader in engine size together with a six-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission which is all set to play in the dirt or mud. Powered by a massive 999cc, the beast can haul up to 1000 pounds and tow weights up to a ton with considerable ease. You can choose a driveline of either 2WD or 4WD. It also boasts of high/low dual-range subtransmission that not only helps you access traction, but also delivers superb power.

Interior Design

To give a sense of security to both the driver and passengers, the Pioneer 1000 is loaded with state-of-the-art features that includes a competitive Occupant Protection Structure. This uses large-diameter tubing which are sturdy, integrated handholds, top tubes that are recessed besides a structure that is more spacious to provide enhanced protection. All of this passes the OSHA’s 1928.53 rollover protective structure standard.

Roll-up side nets and hard doors most definitely provides a secure feel besides keeping mud and debris out of the cabin. Not only this, the automotive-style three-point belts has the nifty Emergency Locking Retractor mechanism which keeps the passengers tucked safely to their seats.

Steering effort is reduced by the electric power steering and it also gets rid of bump steer especially when driving over logs, rocks and side hills. You are bound to get more boost when you are in the 4WD mode, in rough conditions and low speeds.

Another hallmark of this fiery beast is the crystal clear LCD Display. The dashboard displays engine speed (rpm), tripmeter, vehicle speed, fuel level, odometer, gear position, a clock and many more vital stats.  Apart from this, you can allow the UTV to shift automatically and you can override the automatic settings by manually shifting the gears in demanding conditions.

When it comes to seating, the comfort is unparalleled with 3 person contoured bench seating that is durable enough to withstand the rigors of all-weather use. To increase comfort and provide more space for three passengers, the center seat is positioned up. You also have the option to change door and bed panels with ease.

Total flexibility is assured in terms of drives modes.  With one lever, you can switch between 2WD/4WD/Turf & Diff Lock which gives you smoother steering whether you drive on sensitive surfaces like fields of grass or a rocky terrain.

Exterior Design

The Pioneer 1000 comes equipped with large 27-inch tires set on 12-inch steel rims which guarantee a smoother ride, superior traction and enhanced ground clearance. To be precise, you get over 10 inches of both front and rear wheel ground clearance. This UTV has a tilt wheel to help you get a position that's suitable for you. Getting out and getting in is made a lot easy for the driver - thanks to this fine tilt wheel.

The Pioneer 1000's Advanced Transmission Logic is pretty impressive. The fully automatic Dual-Clutch Transmission analyses the state of your riding, keeping an eye on throttle position plus input, vehicle speed and engine RPM. For relaxed drivers, they get lower engine speeds and smooth shifts. In case you are more of a sports driver, you get quicker shifts together with higher engine speeds maximizing power and engine
torque. If you go downhill, the UTV stays in lower gear to enable superior engine braking.

Engine

This UTV has the largest engine in the industry with a fiery 999cc liquid-cooled parallel twin and also claimed to be the smartest with it's Unicam® cylinder-head design. It is specifically customized to produce the target horsepower and torque that this SxS needs. Engine air intake is flawless with it's viscous air filter that promises clean air to the engine under demanding conditions.  With regard to fuel economy, one is assured of getting anywhere around 50 miles per gallon.

Release Date and Price

You can expect the Pioneer 1000’s to arrive at your local dealership this October, 2015. It worth mentioning that higher level powerhouse dealers when compared to other dealers, have the luxury of getting their shipments weeks in advance.  The exact official pricing has not been released yet but it will be done so in a couple of weeks. The approximate price is expected to be around $15000+ for the non-deluxe version.
